Shifting Whispers

“Shifting Whispers” is a multidisciplinary exhibition by the artistic collective Parallax that maps the geographical and narrative layers of our environment. Utilizing a unique “Core and Canopy” layout, the programme features five individual artistic islands (the Cores) that represent different facets of identity and landscape, all unified by a collective canopy that represents the fluid, shifting connections between them.

The exhibition brings together five distinct voices exploring personal interpretations of the unseen: Thanesh Kichi, Rozeree Mohamed, Siti Gunong, Plengpin Khunwang, and Norfatihah Yusof.

At the heart of the exhibition is The Nexus, a collaborative centrepiece installation where all five artists’ mediums intersect to form a single, breathing entity.

“Shifting Whispers” invites festival-goers to journey into the unknown and navigate a multisensory forest of memories. By moving away from rigid definitions of art, these artists demonstrate that creativity is a state of constant evolution, ultimately blurring the lines between the observer and the living environment.

What happens when silence becomes violence? After a powerful run in Penang and Kuala Lumpur, the award-winning “TEWAS: No Light at the End of the Tunnel” arrives at George Town Festival—a visceral theatrical experience confronting the haunting realities of bullying within Malaysian educational institutions. Blending raw storytelling with explosive physical theatre, TEWAS plunges audiences into a fractured world shaped by fear, complicity, survival, and the systems that fail to protect the vulnerable. Nominated 7 times at the 2025 BOH Cameronian Arts Awards and winner of Best Group/Ensemble Performance (Theatre), TEWAS is not just a performance—it is a reckoning. Are you ready to witness it?
“My body is a headless train. My body is a legless boat.” Premiered in 2025 to critical acclaim, the award-nominated “Lament of the Wandering Head” by Sun Son Theatre is a haunting, female-led performance that blends live music, physical theatre, and storytelling. Inspired by the flying head spirit of Southeast Asian folklore, the work reimagines myth as a powerful reflection on migration, displacement, and the fractured histories of the Chinese diaspora. Performed in Mandarin and Penang Hokkien, the production creates a rare bilingual soundscape where language, movement, and music intertwine. Combining traditional Taiwanese percussion with Southeast Asian gongs, chanting, and ritual rhythms, “Lament of the Wandering Head” invites audiences into a visceral theatrical journey where the body speaks as powerfully as words.
Experience the soul of Spain through “Flamenco Signature”, an intimate and electrifying performance led by internationally acclaimed flamenco artist Anabel Veloso, alongside guitarist and musical director Gabriel Pérez, vocalist José Luis Jaén, and flautist Tete Leal. Blending breathtaking dance, passionate vocals, and virtuosic musicianship, this evocative work honours the essence of traditional flamenco while embracing contemporary expression. A celebration of emotion, beauty, and rhythm, it offers an unforgettable journey into the heart of one of the world’s most captivating art forms.
