Dream Space

“Dream Space” by Creative Group SSAK is a mesmerising, non-verbal omnibus puppet show and physical theater performance designed to transport audiences into a realm of boundless imagination. Seamlessly combining exquisitely crafted objects, live music, and profound visual metaphors, this highly immersive 40-minute production offers a poetic escape and a healing experience for spectators of all ages.

The journey begins with a magical “Opening” that instantly transforms an ordinary, everyday environment into an extraordinary theatrical space filled with dynamic physical movement and live music. Following this introduction, the performance transitions into “The Legend”, a captivating segment based on a traditional Korean folktale about “Muneomi Village”—a name historically meaning “a village overflowing with water.” This episode uses Korean puppets and gentle storytelling to bring an old Korean legend to life, sharing a moving story that anyone can easily connect.

The emotional centerpiece of the production is “Whale & Girl”, a breathtaking and dreamlike underwater encounter between a young girl and a giant, gentle whale. Through eye-catching visual objects—including a massive whale puppet and soaring butterflies—and poetic soundscapes, it delivers a deeply moving message of comfort, healing, and coexistence to everyone navigating the trials of modern reality.

Finally, the festive energy reaches its peak with the interactive “Ending Parade”. The giant puppet objects and lively characters step off the stage to mingle, make eye-contact, and dance directly with the crowd. By completely breaking the boundary between performers and audiences, it leaves an unforgettable, celebratory impression that resonates across generations.

“My body is a headless train. My body is a legless boat.” Premiered in 2025 to critical acclaim, the award-nominated “Lament of the Wandering Head” by Sun Son Theatre is a haunting, female-led performance that blends live music, physical theatre, and storytelling. Inspired by the flying head spirit of Southeast Asian folklore, the work reimagines myth as a powerful reflection on migration, displacement, and the fractured histories of the Chinese diaspora. Performed in Mandarin and Penang Hokkien, the production creates a rare bilingual soundscape where language, movement, and music intertwine. Combining traditional Taiwanese percussion with Southeast Asian gongs, chanting, and ritual rhythms, “Lament of the Wandering Head” invites audiences into a visceral theatrical journey where the body speaks as powerfully as words.
“The Malaysian Real Book II” brings together three of Malaysia’s finest jazz vocalists—Ida Mariana, Janet Lee, and Yon Lynn—in a vibrant celebration of the Great Malaysian Songbook. Singing traditional standards and contemporary originals from the treasure trove of The Malaysian Real Book – songs in Malay, Chinese and English – their individual and combined styles are innovative and charged by boundless musical joy, all rooted in a distinctly Malaysian jazz sound. Expect soaring vocals and a foot-tapping vibe carried by the rhythms of swing, bebop and soul, and accompanied by the award-winning WVC Jazz Sextet.
What happens when one of Othello’s most tragic heroines enters the dreamlike world of Japanese Noh theatre? “Shakespeare Meets NOH: DESDEMONA” is a haunting intercultural performance that reimagines Desdemona’s story through the ritual, music, and movement of 14th-century Noh drama. Created by KL Shakespeare Players, the work shifts the focus from Othello to Desdemona herself, imagining an afterlife where she is finally given the power to confront her fate and seek reconciliation on her own terms. Blending Shakespearean storytelling with the refined aesthetics of Noh theatre, the production unfolds through poetic movement, ceremonial rhythms, evocative costumes, and a multilingual soundscape of Japanese, English, Malay, and Chinese. Both intimate and visually striking, “Shakespeare Meets NOH: DESDEMONA” invites audiences into a rare theatrical encounter where classical Japanese performance and Shakespearean tragedy meet in a meditation on memory, grief, forgiveness, and the voices of women long silenced.
