Step into the forgotten workshops of George Town in “Artisan II” by Low Chee Peng. Inspired by the city’s master craftsmen and the traditional trades that once filled its streets, this immersive exhibition captures the spirit of artisans whose skills were passed down through generations. As these workshops disappear from the urban landscape, “Artisan II” invites audiences to rediscover the people, places, and heritage that helped shape the soul of George Town.
“My body is a headless train. My body is a legless boat.” Premiered in 2025 to critical acclaim, the award-nominated “Lament of the Wandering Head” by Sun Son Theatre is a haunting, female-led performance that blends live music, physical theatre, and storytelling. Inspired by the flying head spirit of Southeast Asian folklore, the work reimagines myth as a powerful reflection on migration, displacement, and the fractured histories of the Chinese diaspora. Performed in Mandarin and Penang Hokkien, the production creates a rare bilingual soundscape where language, movement, and music intertwine. Combining traditional Taiwanese percussion with Southeast Asian gongs, chanting, and ritual rhythms, “Lament of the Wandering Head” invites audiences into a visceral theatrical journey where the body speaks as powerfully as words.
What if an entire contemporary art gallery could fit in the palm of your hand? Con-Temporary Art (CTA) by Joshua Kon and Arrvinrajis invites audiences into a miniature world where big ideas unfold on a 1/12-scale stage. Housed within a meticulously crafted travelling gallery, this unique project serves as a creative playground for artists to experiment, test bold concepts, and explore possibilities beyond the limits of conventional exhibition spaces. Small in size but vast in imagination, CTA challenges perceptions of scale and invites visitors to discover how contemporary art can surprise, provoke, and inspire in the most unexpected ways.
