Converge 匯聚

Emerging from the earth like a living organism, “Converge” by Taiwanese artist Kuei-Chih Lee transforms Taman Kejiranan Macallum into a space where nature, people, and the city come together. Inspired by George Town’s history as a port city shaped by migration and cultural exchange, the large-scale installation reflects on coexistence through five sculptural forms that rise organically from the ground. Intertwining like a growing settlement, the structures merge into a single collective form, echoing the many communities, languages, and traditions that have long flourished in Penang.

TypeChhá @ Jio Ba

A lettering workshop that borrows the idea of chú-chhá (煮炒 / stir-fry): taking everyday local ingredients and dishes, and transforming them into expressive letterforms. Participants will explore lettering by drawing inspiration from local dishes, ingredients, taste, textures, shapes, and colours, firing up their creativity to design letters with a distinct local flavour. A joint collaboration between huruf × 31A Dept. Store. SUITABLE FOR Beginners and anyone who’s interested in typography or lettering design. Every island speaks in its own way. Some voices emerge through singing and language, while others are carried within the rhythms of everyday life and embodied memory. As these sounds travel across seas and distances, carrying local textures and native tongues, they gradually move toward one another and intertwine—forming extending soundlines that connect place, memory, and human presence in invisible ways.
