Built on trade and encapsulating multiple Indian heritage and identities, Penang’s Little India has attracted a well-diversified diaspora community from India over the course of centuries, creating a rich cultural tapestry. India is one of the most colourful communities in the world; this vibrancy is represented most tangibly in saree, a traditional form of dress of women throughout India. If you have ever wanted to wear a saree or learn to tie one yourself, join this workshop and find out!
This workshop will also take participants on a ‘Saree Trail’ to various saree shops in Little India where the trade knowledge, skills, and tales of the saree were passed from father to son, generation to generation. Participants will be given in-depth knowledge on major types of sarees, motifs and colours, as well as the historic significance of the six-yard beauty.
