Programme Details

“Contemporary Puppetry as a Tool for Intergenerational Dialogue Performance” brings together four dynamic puppetry groups from across Southeast Asia to explore how contemporary puppetry can bridge generational divides and spark meaningful conversations. Featuring Ombak Potehi (Malaysia), Talentshow (Thailand), Paper Monkey Theatre (Singapore), and Penang-based artists Fish Lim and Ong Aik Lee, this lively dialogue examines the evolving role of puppetry in transmitting heritage, questioning norms, and reimagining tradition. From glove puppets to experimental forms, the conversation will highlight diverse approaches to storytelling, collaboration, and cultural memory. Audiences will gain insights into how each group adapts age-old practices to engage younger generations while honouring elders’ voices. More than a discussion, this session is a celebration of puppetry’s enduring relevance as a medium that is both playful and profound—capable of crossing borders, cultures, and ages to reflect on who we are and how we connect across time.
