Light in the City

Located on Beach Street, one of George Town’s most iconic and vibrant streets, Light in the City is a tribute to the presence, power and endless possibilities of the arts in Penang.

We have a number of arts activities on both days, including Colour the Street and our very popular dothedoodle, which has been a hit at all our outdoor community events. Both activities encourage a collective act of creativity and artistic expression.

Immersio: Outdoor Projection Mapping will also be taking place by OCBC Bank, transforming the facade of the heritage building into a canvas of spellbinding fusion of light, sound and visuals. While you’re there, check out the Immersio: Digital Art Gallery at The Whiteaways Arcade, with an equally impressive and interactive display of digital and new media.

Don’t forget to marvel at Joy in George Town, a breathtaking digital art projection by media artists Juliana and Andrey Vrady, before you explore the lively arts and food market that will tantalise your senses.

The special celebrations continue on 30 July with a mesmerising Batik Fashion Showcase and live performances by Jolynn J Chin, the award-winning crossover pianist, and our friends from Sarawak, At Adau!

Joy in George Town

In Joy in George Town, media artists Juliana and Andrey Vrady will produce an artwork that examines and elucidates a dialogue between technology, art, and our increased interactions with the digital. By examining aspects of computational coding and its connection to creativity and art, the artists ask pertinent questions like how technology perceives human beings and how, through the lens of the artists’ computational codes, humanity might be seen as art.
