George Town Festival 2021 Unveils “Nine Days Eight Exhibitions” and “Nine Days Eight Shows” Campaigns
The campaigns offer visitors a chance to rediscover Penang’s vibrant arts scene in a COVID-safe environment
George Town, Penang, Malaysia, 20 November 2021: Following an unprecedented time in which COVID-19 presented enormous challenges for the festival scene, George Town Festival 2021 is committed to bring Penang’s art scene back to life through two campaigns: “Nine Days Eight Exhibitions” and “Nine Days Eight Shows”, this November and December.
The first campaign, “Nine Days Eight Exhibitions”, will be held from 20 to 28 November 2021 across seven locales in the city – from shopping malls to a cafe, historical buildings, and even a godown-turned-event-space, with eight free-to-attend exhibitions ranging from painting and drawing to photography and installation art.
The exhibitions of “Nine Days Eight Exhibitions” are “AR/UTISTIC: Diaries on the Spectrum”, “Sama-Sama: George Town, A Multicultural Art Journey”, “Between 01”, “Penang at a Glance” Photography Exhibition, “France eMotion”, “Thank God It’s Monday”, “Creative Collection” and “3 x 3” group exhibition.
The second campaign, “Nine Days Eight Shows”, will be held from 4 to 12 December 2021, featuring eight performances across various locales in the state. There will be something for everyone; a rainforest concert and a cultural and contemporary dance performance; Japanese music and French movies; traditional wayang kulit and stand-up comedy.
The shows of “Nine Days Eight Shows” are “Ibuki Hati: Bamboo Flute, Piano, Strings and Dance”, “The Senses”, “Kehebatan Hanuman”, “Ciné France”, “Make Penang Laugh Again!”, “Paper Moon: Jazz in the City Purnama”, “Paper Moon: Jazz in the City Murakami and Jazz” and “All Together Now”.
Visitors can also look forward to other events running alongside the campaigns such as “Sound and Screen: Jazz Film Festival” and “Music Masterclasses: Jazz and Beyond”, happening from 1 to 3 December and 8 to 10 December respectively.
With public health and visitor safety of paramount concern this year, all venues will be implementing mandatory regulations, including capacity and physical distancing measures, temperature screening, regular sanitisation and MySejahtera check-in and check-out.
