Ciné France at Cheah Kongsi
In a collaboration between Le French Film Festival in Penang and George Town Festival 2022, “Ciné France at Cheah Kongsi” is treating festival-goers to an open-air night movie screening of the French movie “Dilili à Paris”, taking place at the historic clan house of Cheah Kongsi in the heart of the George Town UNESCO World Heritage Site! Set in the City of Light during one of its major artistic heydays, the movie follows a young girl named Dilili who arrives as a stowaway from New Caledonia and gets caught up in a mystery plot that will take her through the upper reaches and lower depths of Paris. Young and young-at-heart Francophiles and history buffs will particularly enjoy visiting the who’s who of fin de siècle (end of century) stars of the arts, letters, and sciences in this brilliant homage to Belle Époque Paris (the beautiful era of Paris), so parents, do bring your tots for an ooh la la fun-filled family bonding time!
Dilili à Paris, by Michel Ocelot
Dilili, a young Kanak, investigates a spate of mysterious kidnappings of young girls plaguing Belle Epoque Paris with the help of a delivery boy. In her investigation, she encounters a series of extraordinary characters, each of whom provides clues that will help her in her quest. After “Kirikou and the Sorceress” (1998) and “Azur & Asmar: The Princes’ Quest” (2006), director Michel Ocelot returns with “Dilili à Paris”, an enchanting new tale of brave young heroes, mysteries and discoveries, kidnappings and ordeals, extraordinary places and magical encounters, and dark forces and triumph.
