In Penang, July means only one thing – the return of the annual George Town Festival! First held in 2010 in honour of the city’s designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Festival returns for its 12th edition this year from 10 to 18 July 2021, reimagined and curated as a hybrid festival!

With the alluring combination of physical and virtual programmes, George Town Festival 2021 will take you to experience the state’s diverse arts and culture scene encompassing visual art, theatre, music, dance, film, photography and more in a brand new way. Themed “A Festival for Everyone”, the Festival continues its commitment to making arts accessible to everyone – from the festival-goers to the art communities, the general public and the underprivileged, regardless of age, ethnicity or background.

By integrating traditional forms of onsite entertainment with modern virtual elements, the Festival hopes to create a unique, one-of-a-kind experience for locals to celebrate their hometown’s cultural heritage and for virtual visitors to discover Penang’s creative offerings in a fresh and exciting way. Visit the Festival website for a full programme listing.

George Town Festival 2021 is a project by George Town World Heritage Incorporated (GTWHI), organised by TLM Event, endorsed by the Penang State Government and fully supported by the Penang State EXCO for Tourism and Creative Economy (PETACE), City Council of Penang Island (MBPP), and Penang Global Tourism (PGT).
