What is the concept of ‘modern’ in board games? In the mid-2000s, a silent revolution took place in the world of analogue tabletop games: a new generation of designers introduced to the world the novel ways of playing analogue, non-digital games. Tabletop games no longer had to be highly abstract or wholly competitive – they could be used to collaboratively tell an emergent story, to laugh with your friends, to educate on an esoteric field, and to provoke real emotion.

Tabletop Game Designers of Malaysia (TTGDMY) presents an interactive dual history: first an account of modern analogue game’s design trends and concepts; and secondly, an invitation to experience contemporary Malaysian-made games which respond to these international trends.
