This textile exhibition curated by Welyne Jeffrey Jehom showcases the remarkable pua kumbu (silk ikat cloths) produced by the Iban weavers of Rumah Garie, Sarawak. Utilising natural ingredients and the ancient and traditional tie and-dye resist technique, the talented artisans will present the finest examples of pua kumbu, as well as contemporary accessories, such as shawls and tailored clothes that feature the pua kumbu patterns.
With multimedia and interactive methods including weaving looms, films, and lectures, this show will give participants the experience of creating their own pua kumbu, as well as presenting the stories and folklore behind the cultural tradition.
