“Free Scan Job” by TRIANGULUM is a visually rich collage composed of face scans and images of objects, textures, and scenes encountered throughout the artist collective’s time in Penang. The project comprises three interconnected components: a face scanning session, mural making, and an exhibition.
These visuals are printed and applied to a wall using wheat paste, forming a layered, immersive mural that reflects both people and place.
To gather the face scans, TRIANGULUM stations themselves at high-footfall locations across George Town for approximately six hours a day over four days, engaging directly with the public. Painting remains minimal, using locally sourced acrylic exterior house paints to unify and accent the composition.
The resulting mural is presented alongside documentation and printed matter in an exhibition, transforming the work into a living archive of encounters. Blending digital and manual techniques, Free Face Scan becomes a site-responsive artwork rooted in both community and process.
TRIANGULUM is an artist collective and an independent-run space, dedicated to exploring the roles of art and culture in a rapidly changing world. Founded in 2023 by E.S.L. Chen, with key contributions from Frelan “Pakz” Gonzaga and Karina Broce Gonzaga, it fosters open expression and collaboration. Rooted in photography and the physical print, TRIANGULUM values these mediums as creative origins. Its vision is to export Philippine art and culture through international exchange, publications, and public engagement. TRIANGULUM is currently working towards establishing a modern printing workshop and artist residency focused on the evolving role of print in artistic practice.
