Wire art abounds in George Town, but taking the artform to a different level is French sculptor Matthieu Robert-Ortis, whose 3D wire sculptures miraculously appear to morph into different shapes as the angle of viewing the artwork changes.
The festival will play host to his most popular work - 'The Revolution of Giraffes' - which shows a pair of elegant giraffes from one angle and an elephant when you change your line of sight! A video of this artwork has received a staggering 85 million+ views on Facebook.
Another artwork on display will be 'The Game of Drones' commissioned by the George Town Festival. Raising questions on nature and technology, the sculpture shows a pair of eagles from one angle and a drone when the angle of viewing the artwork changes. Will drones replaces eagles in the future?
The sculptures will be open for viewing during performance evenings at Dewan Sri Pinang (closed from 8-18 August), and will be at the Butterworth Fringe Festival (BFF). 'The Revolution of Giraffes' is sponsored by George Town Heritage Hotels.
