Numbers are infinite, just like the infinite experiences that can be felt by the human body. This is why for a show which meaning is impossible to be encapsulated by a single word or phrase, it is best to be titled a number.
Beijing-based acclaimed choreographer Tao Ye brings you the two of his “Straight Line Trilogy” series, 6 and 8.
8 would mark the last dance in the series. This ground-breaking dance – literally – has eight dancers lying on the ground, exploring the possibilities of the body movement when it is restricted to floor.
The dance studies the logic of movement and discovers the full potential of human bodies, albeit all kinds of limitations. It represents a whole new level of abstract, uncaged by the rigid structure of storytelling. After all, art is supposed to set senses and perceptions free. Tao Ye asks you not to dwell on the longing for an answer; what you see is what you get.
TAO Dance Theater, China’s most championed contemporary dance company had taken Shanghai, Melbourne, London, Amsterdam and New York by storm, and now making its first appearance in Malaysia.
8 is a first in Southeast Asia, a must-watch for GTF 2017.
